City Centre Neighbourhood Team Take Positive Action

Officers from the City Centre Neighbourhood Team have charged a man in his 40s following an incident at a licensed premises in Manchester city centre.

The charges relate to Outraging Public Decency and Possession of an Offensive Weapon in a Public Place. Following CPS authorisation, the man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Magistrates’ Court.

This was a great example of partnership working. Staff at the venue acted quickly by reporting concerns to nearby officers, while members of the public provided valuable witness accounts that enabled officers to take swift action.

We are also continuing to work closely with Manchester City Council’s ASBAT team to pursue a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which, if granted by the court, will provide additional measures to help protect the public and reduce the risk of further offending.

“Everyone should be able to enjoy Manchester city centre without feeling unsafe or intimidated. Incidents like this can have a real impact on victims and those who witness them.

I’d like to personally thank the members of the public and the venue staff for reporting what they saw so quickly. Their information allowed our officers to act immediately and secure the evidence needed to bring this case before the courts.

We work closely every day with local businesses, Manchester City Council, the ASBAT team and other partner agencies to tackle crime, reduce anti-social behaviour and protect our communities.
